Social media had a field day this past weekend when Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a Hip Hop 50, star-studded concert in Washington D.C. Iconic Hip Hop artists such as Q-Tip and Common were in attendance along with Lil Wayne who seized the limelight with his performance.
Coincidentally, Wayne’s song choice had social media trolling. The rapper took to the stage to perform his 2008 hit single, “Mrs. Officer.”
“I got stopped by a lady cop. She got me thinking I can date a cop. Cause her uniform pants are so tight. She ready me my rights.”
Social media was quick to point out the juxtaposition of Wayne’s lyrics against Harris’ history with law enforcement and our country’s overall criminal justice system. If you’re unfamiliar, Harris used to serve as San Francisco’s district attorney and California’s attorney of general and was also a senator for the Golden State.
One Twitter user wrote, “I feel like the world right now is just one big episode of The Boondocks.” While another wrote, “I wonder how many people at the event caught what Lil Wayne did by performing this specific song at the residence of this specific Vice President.”
