Big Deal Dunlap – Knocking off the Competition in Official Celebrity Boxing

Jason Sherrod Dunlap was born in Camden, NJ. The youngest of three boys, Sherrod comes from a large family with a multitude of cousins and was raised between Camden & Pennsauken. He started boxing at a young age of 10 years old and after a hand injury he turned to his other passion, the pigskin. He played Varsity Football at Pennsauken High School, a standout star that lead to recruitment from several D1 schools. Sherrod suffered a knee injury during his senior season. He went on to play football at Kean University where he suffered a cracked ankle and hamstring injury which ended his football aspirations. As a teen off and on, Sherrod’s Uncle, former professional boxer, Tom “The Bomb” Dunlap would teach him the fundamentals and at one point train him to be a fighter. Having these boxing skills not only helped with his discipline but also came in handy living in Camden. With everything Sherrod endured as an aspiring athlete with several injuries and obstacles, boxing had always remained his passion and he never lost the hunger.

Fast forward almost 30 years after those lessons from his Uncle & Father, through Paul Caputi, High School friend and boxer himself (10x Tough Man Champion and current Celebrity Boxing Middleweight Champ), he was introduced to Celebrity Boxing in 2023. At this point, Sherrod faced a new challenge of getting in shape and began a strict training regiment that included running three times a day, several trips to the gym as well as a disciplined diet. After several grueling months of getting into shape, Sherrod embarked on his first fight with former cruiserweight champion Frankie Picard, which ended with Picard being KO’d in the second round. In his first title defense, he faced Michael “The Icon” Davis, which resulted in another win (TKO) and help solidify his stature in the ring. Recently Sherrod stopped by Opposing Perspectives Podcast to talk about his journey to become a Champion in Official Celebrity Boxing.

After two successful matches, he currently holds the Official Celebrity Boxing Cruiserweight Champion title. “I train like I’m facing a 12 round boxing match” says Dunlap, when asked about his training. With that quote alone, we must take note of the hard work and dedication Sherrod applies to his craft. Now training for his upcoming fight on June 8th at Showboat Casino in Atlantic City against Ryan Dalton. Sherrod is looking forward to maintaining his title and has his sights set on Hazel Roche (Current Official Celebrity Boxing Heavyweight Champion) and Sugar Ray Leonard Jr. Beyond boxing, Sherrod is a father of two and continues to be an inspiration for them and others in his community. He is currently working with other community leaders to create a safe space for the youth of Camden to teach boxing and discipline to provide a foundation for their dreams. In short, Sherrod epitomizes his city of Camden with toughness, resilience and he has become an inspiration for many. Which is why he is, most certainly, a “Hometown Hero.”
