Gervonta “Tank” Davis vs Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz The Fight of 2022

Gervonta Davis’ punches pack prodigious power. Davis showing his skills both defensively and offensivley all while maintaing top notch composure under pressure. Cruz one of the fastest and heavy hitting oppenents Davis has faced throw many power punches that would have destroyed any other fighter. He just could not land that hopeful punch as Davis shows the world once again he is the best pound for pound.

In 27 professional fights spanning 10 years, “Tank” has steamrolled through the competition with 25 knockouts.  Davis’ toughest test to date came in 2021 when he faced Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz. Cruz lasted the full 12 rounds and lost a unanimous decision via scores 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113. Davis edged Cruz in total shots landed, 133 to 121. The 121 landed punches by Cruz were the most ever by a Davis opponent. Immediately after the fight – and the following months afterward – Davis maintained that he had no interest in fighting Cruz again. But now, the Baltimore-bred knockout artist is changing his stance.

“I’ll fight him again. I will stop him next time. And how can people say I lost this [fight], oh my god. I did a lot of [bullsh!t] ]in this fight though for sure,” Davis said in a pair of deleted posts on Twitter. Following the contest versus Cruz, Davis admitted that he was dealing with a left-hand injury that limited him during the bout. In the second half of the fight, Davis lost considerable steam from his offense as Cruz mounted his competitive comeback. The Mexican fighter Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) has called for a sequel several times while blasting through Eduardo Ramirez and Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2022. Davis knocked out Rolando Romero in May and he’s preparing to fight Hector Luis Garcia on Jan. 7 on Showtime pay-per-view and has already agreed to fight Ryan Garcia later in 2023. The 28-year-old Davis recently declared he wants to fight a total of three times in 2023.

If his plans are to come to fruition, the 24-year-old Cruz could be the perfect opposition for Davis to round out the calendar year.
