Last year, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, as US states closed for quarantine, the BIG3 announced the cancellation of their 2020 season. After hiring a new CEO, Ice Cube, confirmed the BIG3’s return for Summer 2021!
The league is set to make its return in June, with 10 consecutive weekends to be scheduled, and a championship game to take place in August.
Unlike previous seasons, where games were hosted in various cities, the BIG3 plans to host games in just one city – which is to be expected considering the pandemic hasn’t quite disappeared just yet.
The new CEO, Chris Hannan, shared that they’ll “have to react to what the government and health officials are (saying). The most important thing for this season is the health and safety aspects for the players and everybody involved with putting on these events.”
2019’s BIG3 MVP, and 7x NBA Allstar, Joe Johnson, has already committed to his return for the Summer. Amar’e Stoudemire, Nate Robinson, and Marreese Speights join Johnson as confirmed players expected to return as well.
