Way back in 2008, award winning hiphop group The Roots had a vision. They wanted to put together a hiphop festival for their hometown Philly. Lead Mc Black Thought, Questlove and their manager Shawn Gee all got together and started what is now a staple in the city The Roots Picnic. The very first festival was at the pier on Penns Landing. So far the festival has had some of the biggest hiphop, jazz, blues, R&B artists from all over the world perform on its main stage. Artists like Gnarls Barkley, Snoop Dogg, Meek Mill, Pharrell, Mac Milker, KID Cudi, John Legend, Nas and so many more. Its a chance to showoff our beautiful city to the world. The Roots Picnic is all about the hiphop culture, but its definitely a Philly Thang.
