DJ Wagner, No. 2 overall in 2023, expected to announce soon with all signs pointing to Kentucky

DJ Wagner, the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2023 class, is expected to put an end to his recruitment and make an official announcement next week, as early as Monday (Nov. 14), a source tells 247Sports.

When the announcement comes, it is expected that Wagner will officially declare for the Kentucky Wildcats, capping off the 2023 recruiting class for John Calipari — and giving him the No. 1 class in the country.

Based on the information at hand, I have raised my Crystal Ball to a level 10 out of 10. My confidence in Kentucky is sky-high.

Wagner has been in the midst of one of the most high-profile recruitments we’ve seen in some time as fierce rivals Louisville and Kentucky vie for the the five-star combo guard.

Wagner formerly held the No. 1 ranking in the class and he has deep ties to both bluegrass programs with his father having been coached by John Calipari at Memphis and his grandfather having played at Louisville with Kenny Payne and now being on staff with Payne.

Wagner is expected to be the fifth signee in Kentucky’s 2023 class, joining two other top-five commits in Justin Edwards (No. 3 overall) and Aaron Bradshaw (No. 4 overall). Also in the excellent class are Robert Dillingham (No. 13 overall) and Reed Sheppard (No. 44 overall).

It will be the first time since the 2020 recruiting class that John Calipari inked the No. 1 class and the eighth time in his tenure at Kentucky to hold the top class (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2020 and ultimately 2023).
