90 Million Raised By Black Lives Matter In 2020

The father of Michael Brown Jr. and other activists from Ferguson, Missouri are requesting $20 million from Black Lives Matter, the New York Post reported. Where has the money gone? When do we see direct effects of the money given? When does the donations and protest change the minds of the lawmakers and enforcers? Has any neighborhood you live in or near gain anything from the BLM movement? Why was the black media not the first to be able to release the story and the associated press, who is known for racial mishaps were? All questions asked by the people as to hope for some light on where these donations are and when will it help better our communities.

Not only has BLM secured a substantial amount of donations the NAACP also have reached over 100 million just in 2020. We the people are asking for results and proof of what’s being done with the money. The ACLU a white owned organization also raised well more than both organizations but, are we really asking the oppressor’s to help?

The demand came after an exclusive report from the Associated Press that revealed BLM Global Network raised more than $90 million in 2020. BLM released its 2020 impact report, which showed that the organization granted $21.7 million to multiple Black local organizations and BLM chapters. But activists are calling for more assistance and accountability.

“We’re asking that Black Lives Matter leadership funds $20 million to Ferguson organizers, organizations, and community foundations to do the work,” International Black Freedom Alliance’s co-founder Tory Russell said in a video with Michael Brown Sr. “We’re not begging for a handout; we’re coming for what we deserve.”

Michael Brown Jr. was killed by a white cop, Darren Wilson, on August 9, 2014. Wilson was not charged for Brown’s fatal shooting. His death sparked a wave of protests and uprisings in Ferguson and helped BLM gain more prominence as an organization.

The Black Lives Matter movement began in 2013, following the death of Trayvon Martin, an African-American teenager who was shot while walking to a family friend’s house, and the subsequent acquittal of George Zimmerman, the man who shot him. The campaign was co-founded by three Black women: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, as a response to the police killings of Black people. The phrase “black lives matter” was first used in a Facebook post by Garza after Zimmerman was found not guilty, and was the inspiration for the campaign. Cullors recognised the power of Garza’s words and created the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter, and the campaign was born.

Now today where there is a 10 billion dollar rumor of funds but a documented 90 million was raised from one email blast consisting of 1.9 million recipients. Impact report is shown in link below.
