The Culture was blessed to link with Texas Reign, to get the exclusive on her recent release and what has been going on since the pandemic.
“I was coming of a year baby stint; I had two baby’s back-to-back 2020 and 2021 and it wasn’t a smooth experience. I promised myself after I recovered, I would come out swinging and create a body of work that represented me and my generation while simultaneously giving flowers to the artists that influenced my entire sound and writing style. I was sent this beat produced by Denzel ( @prod.mind ) and honestly, I couldn’t compose myself. I ran to my studio immediately. I am such a huge advocate for the era I grew up in. That BUSTA and Mariah song was a huge smash when it was out, and the sample was giving all the nostalgia. So, it felt like a tribute to them and that time.

It also was not lost on me that not giving up on myself and my dreams was self-care. And I needed to show not only myself what is possible but my babies.

In addition to that one thing, I know is if I needed to prove it to myself, by doing so might simultaneously influence another woman to do right by herself and chase her dreams.

As far creating the song,
I didn’t want to overthink or over analyze it. I just wanted to create a fun song that knocks and makes people feel how we felt back 106 N Park would come on.

I wanted to collab with a female artist and my husband and I (@iamsahmo) both instantly thought of Asia Sparks.

With Asia I’m not too cool to admit I started out as just a fan. A fan of her music, a fan of her spirit, her hustle and her work ethic. Asia and I worked on another song previously and it became an instant meshing of artistry. The authentic connection that we shared was just undeniable. She’s such a genuine beautiful person in and out. So, when I recorded IKWYW I knew she would complete it.

After the first song we did We started talking more and i grew to love her as a person. Just GOOD Infectious energy.

So, then we were like hey let’s go to Miami and shoot the video. I hit her up we booked a flight and the next day we were in Miami for a 24hour shoot. Boom. The rest is Herstory.”
