On “God Did,” the title track from DJ Khaled’s new album, you’ll find Jay-Z on empire mode. The long-teased verse is a reminder that he’s still an exceptional writer. That’s not surprising.
What is surprising is the overwhelming call for more yet, not too many artists with this style gains traction in today’s algorithm. Artist like Dell-P, Joey Bada$$, Fear Vou$ and Rome Ya’FavoriteRapper have a niche sound that should be mainstream.
It is unfortunate due to the lack of real-estate in the industry we have no say in what is pushed publicly. What is fortunate, the underground and true hip-hop fans will always find their way to the high vibrating music we need. Being successful does not have a look, it is simply the achievement of a goal that should constantly grow. Longevity comes for those who remain true to the sound, fame comes to those who invest heavily and consistently.
