This past weekend in Philadelphia, the Roots Picnic took place at The Mann Center at Fairmount Park. With over 60K tickets sold, the 2-Day event was filled with culture, music, vibes, and community. Coming from near and far, we all joined together for an epic weekend of star-studded performances across two stages. Kicking off Day 01, a fusion of Afrobeats, Hip Hop, R&B and Soul, filled the air. Day 02 was no different, in terms of the level of epic-ness, as DJ Jazzy Jeff, Rakim, Tierra Whack, Kirk Franklin, Musiq Soulchild, SWV, Keyshia Cole, WizKid, and Summer Walker closed out the weekend.
While this event is undeniably a celebration of Black culture, and rightfully so, it was beautiful to see so many diverse faces embracing it. And we can only hope their support continues on in their everyday lives, post-festival.
Live from Philly, CDHQ’s Maria Myraine (@maria.maven) was on the ground capturing all the epic moments throughout the day. Check out the recap video (Day 01) and photos (Day 01 & 02), and make sure to follow @RootsPicnic!
