After dropping the long awaited “Detroit 2”, Big Sean is taking a page out of Lil’ Wayne’s page and is laying every feature available with solid material. Travis Scott, Nipsey Hussle, Future, Mike Will and most recently Jack Harlow have all collaborated to make great records but I think Sean has another album up his sleeve somewhere. Not as many songs on this go around, I believe most artist who drop 20 records in one album tend to be clearing the hard drive for the new work. Lil Wayne & Benny The Butcher “Timeless” one of my favorites next to the above “Deep Reverence”.
“Deep Reverence” produced by Hit Boy recent Grammy recipient for Nas’s “King’s Disease”, has such a fulfilling vibe incorporated into this record to make it a timeless vibe. Snoop Dogg giving Big Sean the “Blue Carpet” treatment as they ride through the city hitting switches in the old school whip, was the perfect way to bring in the visual. Directed by Sergio, the essence of the city, capturing the many murals created in honor of the late great Nipsey Hussle on top of a solid flow of framing made this a top visual in my eyes. What really stood out was the mention of Kendrick Lamar and Sean reaching out to end a misunderstanding in light of Nipsey’s murder. On top of that the mention of not learning skills in school such as, coping with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, understanding love and loving yourself. It seems all we learn from our school books have yet to take us farther in life.
The definition of “Reverence” is a deep respect for someone or something. The song title, the production, the bars, the delivery the touch of Nipsey in the beginning mixed with a solid visuals gives me a deep reverence for everyone apart of this record. We often miss out on the true feelings and hardships of our stars and Sean puts it out on the line. Some things really are more important than money and that’s LIFE.
